Etsy visit vs. view explained

One of the most common questions I get asked when going over a client's stats is, 'WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VISIT AND A VIEW AND WHY DO I CARE?"

When it comes to understanding your Etsy shop's traffic, it is important to know the difference between an Etsy view and an Etsy visit because they measure different things.

WHAT IS A VIEW?

A view refers to when a customer sees your shop's homepage or listings. This could be from a customer actively searching for your shop or from someone browsing through Etsy's marketplace. A view is counted when a customer clicks on your shop's name or logo, or when they land on one of your listings.

WHAT IS A VISIT?

On the other hand, a visit refers to when a customer actively clicks into your shop and views multiple pages. A visit is counted when a customer clicks on your shop's name or logo and then clicks on multiple listings or pages within your shop.

It's important to note that a visit can include multiple views. For example, if a customer clicks on your shop's name and then clicks on three different listings, that would count as one visit and three views.

An important note about visits is that the stat may change throughout the day.  This is because Etsy is filtering out the bot visits.  In fact, you will often notice that your numbers go down at the end of the day.  This is just Etsy completing the process of filtering out the bots.

 WHAT IS A BOT VISIT?

A bot visit on Etsy refers to a visit to an Etsy shop or listing by a software program (or "bot") rather than a human user. These visits can occur for a variety of reasons, such as from search engine crawlers indexing the site, or from other automated systems that are tracking or monitoring the site. These visits can be beneficial, as they help increase the visibility of the shop or listing, but they can also be problematic, as they can inflate visitor or traffic statistics and skew analytics data.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT FOR THE ETSY SELLER?

Knowing the difference between views and visits can help you understand how customers are interacting with your shop. A high number of views on your shop's homepage could indicate that customers are finding your shop through search, while a high number of visits could indicate that customers are actively browsing and engaging with your shop.

It can be helpful to track both views and visits over time to see how your shop's traffic is changing and to make adjustments to your shop's listings and marketing strategy accordingly.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE STATS PAGE?

Etsy provides shop owners with access to various analytics and statistics about their shop and listings. You can find these statistics in your Etsy shop's "Shop Manager" dashboard.

To view your shop's statistics, log in to your Etsy account and go to the "Shop Manager" by clicking the three lines at the top left corner of the page. Once you are in the Shop Manager, click on the "Stats" tab on the left side of the page. Here you will find a variety of metrics, including views and visits, as well as other important data such as sales, orders, and traffic sources.

You can also view these statistics in relation to specific listings. To view the statistics of a specific listing, go to the listing in your Shop Manager and click on the "Listing" tab. You will be able to see the number of views and favorites.

I hope you found this helpful! Happy Selling!
